charity: water | overview

From heartfelt stories to technical water project updates, charity: water and I have collaborated on it all.

Here’s a look at the work we’ve created so far.

The Storytelling Email Campaign

In late 2020, we launched a storytelling email campaign that aimed to convert contacts on our mailing list into Spring members—our monthly giving community. So far, those three emails have inspired 92 people to join The Spring and resulted in a projected $26,736 in yearly recurring revenue. That’s enough to provide clean water for 668 people around the world!

The September Campaign

One of the best things to come out of 2020 was charity: water’s revived September Campaign. By renewing this tradition, charity: water raised enough money to serve 27,199 people with clean water. I worked with the team to develop informational emails, transactional emails and social posts.

EOY Well Dinner Collateral

On December 10, charity: water hosted its first virtual Well Dinner. The event was moving, engaging and required an incredible team effort. But it all paid off. In just five minutes, we raised enough to serve 100,250 people with clean water.

Uniqlo Video Script

In 2019, UNIQLO partnered with charity: water and started their paper bag campaign. In just one year, they raised enough money to change 10,000 lives in India, Cambodia, Madagascar and Malawi. In celebration of the milestone, the charity: water team and I collaborated on a thank you video that was ultimately translated into six languages and played on in-store monitors throughout the U.S.

Water Project Updates

Transparency is a top priority at charity: water, and every water project sponsor receives regular and timely updates on their project. As their contract copywriter, I’ve had the privilege of helping write, copyedit and prepare these highly technical and detailed documents for our donors.

A personal note

I learned about the ripple effects of clean water while helping with a dental clinic in the Dominican Republic. There, I met three elementary-aged boys who wanted to answer math questions instead of play games.

When I started asking about school, I learned that the most common thing keeping students out of class was dirty water—it was making them sick. And the girls, even if they were healthy, were often responsible for collecting water and still missing class.

I immediately started looking for nonprofits that were working to solve this problem and discovered charity: water. For years, I admired their work from afar and hoped for the chance to work with them. That opportunity came in April of 2020, and it’s been a dream to collaborate with such a respectable organization.

If you’re interested in learning more about the water crisis and how you can help, pop on over to charitywater.org. You can give a one-time donation, join The Spring, or even start your own campaign.
